ISM Weekly Blog

For the majority of this week, I had been focusing on catching up on current events and becoming aware of what is happening in and around the world. There was quite a bit to delve into, I found myself presented with a numerous amount of information that was really incredibly exciting to have the opportunity to research the different types of areas that I could go into to all seemed interconnected in such an interesting way. I could look into, economics and environmental issues and politics and international diplomacy and looking into what the experts suggest be done and also to get the varying opinions, I would look into the views of the people that oppose the experts and I find it so immensely interesting. There is a water shortage in Cape Town, South Africa; and in a couple of months, in April actually, the highly populated city will be the first major country of the world to run out of water. The South African government is worried about how the people will react, and they predict that the city will be in a state of chaos. And important developments like that are the kinds of stories that get lost in the web of our daily tasks. Also in Africa there are people being sold into slavery and this is horrific but I realized that United States authorities are doing minimal work to aid these innocent people. In the war in Syria there has been seemingly little progress made, in diplomatic terms--not in anyway do I mean to diminish the military efforts on the ground-- Then there has been a serious escalation of the in the diplomatic talks of Netanyahu. But there’s a whole world out there that’s happening in real-time whether we are paying attention, or not so I prefer to pay attention.
