ISM Weekly Report

This week in ISM we had the business symposium at Independence High School. The ISM Business Symposium is an event where all the students in the ISM program from all over the district come together and are exposed to various professionals from a wide range of fields. It is really a great networking opportunity for not only on a student to student basis but on a student to professional basis. When we were there each student is interviewed by two professionals at random. And the professional that interviews a student may or may not be associated with the particular field of study that a student may be interested in. But the interview process was great for me personally. It was really cool to see, how even in differentiating occupations, how much the basic professional etiquette translates to all people no matter what their job is. It is like they all speak the same language, professionalism. For me personally in both of my interviews, the discussion ultimately shifted to the subject of leadership and how that particular professional applies leadership to his or her own field. There was a common response about how the weight of responsibility is a quite daunting one at first, but over the years the task of leading and influencing others became more manageable for these professionals who even said themselves were not natural leaders. From that I learned that anyone can learn anything with the right amount of effort devoted to the task, no matter how daunting the task may seem.
